Our Program

A safe, secure, family-oriented environment for long-term recovery.

Our Program provides a safe, secure, family-oriented environment where residents must immerse themselves in self-help programs. Residents are given duties which they can incorporate into their daily life, supporting their eventual return to the community.

It is expected that residents adhere to the following guidelines and behaviours: responsibility, discipline, and compliance with house rules and curfews. The National Institute on Drug Abuse defines long-term treatment as 6 to 12 months. Facilities that are under 6 months of residential care are considered short-term treatment. St. Stephen's House of London residents can stay for 1-3 years depending on their needs — most residents stay 12-18 months. Did you know? For every $1 spent on recovery, the Government saves $7 in hospital, medical, and institutional care. St. Stephen's House is the only long-term residential recovery home for men and women in London, that is 100% community funded.

Long-Term Residence

Unlike many recovery programs with fixed timelines, we offer open-ended stays so residents can focus on healing without the pressure of artificial deadlines. Our homes are structured, safe, and family-oriented — providing the stability needed for lasting change.

12-Step Program

Residents are immersed in proven 12-step programs. With access to nearby support groups and a supportive community of peers, each resident builds a strong foundation for sobriety that extends well beyond their time with us.

Our recovery program is based in the concepts of the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Both homes are located in close proximity to many 12-step groups, and residents are required to get active and be involved.

Life Skills Training

Recovery is about more than sobriety — it's about building a life worth living. Our program includes practical training in budgeting, cooking, job readiness, and healthy communication to help residents thrive independently.

Residents are given duties which they can incorporate into their daily life, supporting their eventual return to the community. Build practical skills for daily living, employment, and healthy relationships.

Relapse Prevention

Mandatory group sessions focus on identifying triggers, developing coping strategies, and creating personalized relapse prevention plans. Residents learn to recognize warning signs early and build resilience for long-term sobriety.

St. Stephen's House hosts mandatory 12-step, life skills, and relapse prevention groups. Learn strategies, coping mechanisms, and long-term sobriety planning in a supportive environment.

Family-Oriented Care

Our homes operate like families. Residents share meals, responsibilities, and support each other through the ups and downs of recovery. This sense of belonging and accountability is central to our approach.

A warm, home-like atmosphere where residents are treated with care and respect. We foster connection, accountability, responsibility, and discipline in a family-oriented environment.

Women's Program

Opened in 2020, our women's residence on Blackfriars Street was the first of its kind in London. It provides a safe, gender-specific environment where women can heal from addiction with specialized support and understanding.

Our dedicated women's residence at 25 Blackfriars Street opened February 1, 2020, after a year and a half of renovations and countless volunteer hours — the first of its kind in London.
